Dewey was born in Onslow County on November 25, 1947, and now resides in Stella. He began singing at the age of seven in local churches, and later in life played and performed with ‘The White Top Mountain Band’ and ‘Southern Grace’. He has performed at such venues as: Carter Fold, Alleghany Jubilee, Woolwine Apple Butter Festival, and Grand Ole Gospel. Dewey served his country from 1968 to 1971 in the US Army. Every show needs a true southern gentleman who can step up to the mic and give you some “Hank Williams,” and Dewey has proved to be the man for the job. The Jamboree audience enjoys his pure country tones and his smile that lights up the room. As you watch the show, there is no question that Dewey does it for his love of the show and his passion for people. Whether you are being entertained by Dewey or just having conversation in the lobby, you find out real quick that he is a “People Person.” When he is not performing at the Jamboree, you might find him gardening, fishing or just leaning back somewhere picking his guitar and singing. Dewey says he enjoys working at the Jamboree with such a talented group of people. He says that he is learning from each one of the cast members; but we say: it is you, Dewey, that we are learning from, how to conduct our lives with respect, dignity and grace. Ladies and gentlemen, make sure that you meet this veteran, and you will agree with us, “What a delightful human being.” |
