Clyde Mattocks
Steel Guitar, Banjo, Dobro & Guitar
Return to Band

Clyde got his first Steel Guitar for Christmas when he was fourteen years of age. Six months later, he was playing in a band; because in Clyde’s words, “in those days, no one could tell if you were playing one of those contraptions correctly or not”. As modest as he is, the fact is that from that day on Clyde has become an Icon in Country Music. Everyone who is anyone knows Clyde Mattocks and the ‘Master ‘that he is on steel guitar, as well as various other string instruments. But it doesn’t stop there; he is also known in and around the business as a professional and as a true gentlemen. His work ethics and humble attitude have rewarded him with a long and successful career as well as a list of friends. You might say that Clyde is a man of “First Class Reputation”.

Born and “half raised” in Kinston, North Carolina, his music has taken him across the United States, Canada and Europe. Clyde says, “I have been very blessed to be able to do what I love for most of my life”. He has fronted the Nationally Acclaimed ‘Super Grit Cowboy Band’ for Thirty-Three years (and counting), he has appeared on the Nashville Network numerous times, and has played the most prestigious venues in the country including Vegas. In addition to live shows, Clyde is also a very sought after studio musician and has performed on and produced many recording projects. He also has recorded and released two self titled CDs, ‘Clyde Mattocks, Over My Shoulder’ (A steel guitar collection) and ‘Clyde Mattocks, Hugging the Hound’ (A dobro set).

Clyde started at the Jamboree during Christmas of 2006, filling in for regular steel man, Ron Wells. As Ron’s professional duties became more demanding, the two elected to switch roles. So now, you may see Ron filling in from time to time for Clyde when he has ‘Super Grit’ dates to fulfill.

The Jamboree’s Show Director and Theater Manager, Gaylon Pope said: “The Jamboree Cast & Band are very humbled and honored that this true Icon would grace our stage. We are very blessed to have him and we are very entertained by his on and off stage humor.” Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Clyde Mattocks.
